Mysteries surround us, legends never die
They live for the moment, lost in time

From the very beginning of my shooting I've combined photography with my love of history. The most obvious & frequent manifestation of these duel loves involves the Dallas Heritage Village At Old City Park. I've been a volunteer photographer for the Village since my very first visit. This museum was begun in 1967 when the antebellum home Millermore was saved by preservationists who moved it to the first city park of Dallas.
Last fall, during a meeting about upcoming events and photography requirements, I mentioned I wanted an opportunity to do a detailed photographic study of one of the buildings. I was given full access to the queen of the Village, Millermore (built between 1855-1862). I spent 11 hours shooting the two-story building. During much of the time the building was closed to the public. I must confess, I don't know which I enjoyed the most - the quiet contemplative solitude or the great conversations with visitors. The pace of the shooting was actually pretty close under both conditions. Since I was using only natural light I did use a tripod for the entire shoot.
Now, on to posting a a collection of shots from my Millermore study.

If you live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and you want to shoot with me please send me an email. I am always wanting to do more shooting!

Lens Frustration
My Canon 18-55 lens has died. Now I'm looking at what's on the market seeing I have to make a decision someway along the pathetic to the absurd continuum. The pathetic end is cheap in all aspects of the word while the absurd is not only totally out of my budget, they make me exclaim, "You have GOT to be kidding!"
Does anyone have any experience with the Tamron lens in that size?
Updating
Wow... it is difficult to believe March is almost over...
A quarter of the year is gone and I'm still trying to get "started". This year has had its fill of trauma, drama and illness already. I am just now getting caught up on photo projects from December and still have a massive project from early March to complete. However I am getting in some lens therapy which has helped a lot even if they pile up the RAW files to review. My goal is to be caught up by the time Scarborough Renaissance Festival kicks off next month...
After two years of minimal attendance and shooting at Scarborough I'm looking forward to getting back into Faire. Sinc
Bah Humbug!
This morning, with a bright beautiful blue sky and and a lovely forecast, the Alliance Air Show was cancelled for weather. However it was from the weather the night before: the area had several strong thunderstorms pass through and the parking areas were saturated. I had arrived at 6:15AM for a 7:00AM photo tour. The gates to our parking weren't even unlocked until 7:20. And we quickly found out how deceiving the grass cover was about the condition of the ground. The light car in front of me created ruts several inches deep and my vehicle sank even more. After just a dozen of us were in the VIP lot they quickly diverted everyone else t
A trip to the marshes
I just got back from a wonderful week-long vacation that included two days of fishing in the marshes of Little Lake in LaFourche Parish, Louisiana. I did enough fishing to show I could do so (catching the largest fish of the trip in the process) but then put aside the rod and reel for my camera. While I've spent a great deal of time in the swamps of Louisiana this was my first trip to the marshes. I was astounded by the beauty and bio-diversity there. And my photos reflect diversity as well... from birds to fish to waterscapes to man-made structures to a host of water craft. I'll be sharing some in the weeks to come.
